This year’s MTV VMA nominations are in, and multi-platinum, two-time
MTV VMA award-winning Island Records group Fall Out Boy – whose RIAA
platinum new album INFINITY ON HIGH is in its 27th week on the
Billboard 200 album chart after debuting at #1 – is on the way to
the Moonman pick-up line with nominations for the ultra-competitive
Monster Single of the Year Award (“Thnks Fr The Mmrs”), and the
equally competitive Best Group Award. Fall Out Boy will perform at
the broadcast, which happens live on MTV from the Strip in Las Vegas
on Sunday night, September 9th, at 9:00 p.m. (ET)/8:00 (C).
Chicago’s Fall Out Boy traveled to Africa for the first time last
month, and filmed a video with director Allen Ferguson in Uganda for
their upcoming single, “I’m Like a Lawyer…(Me & You),” in
partnership with the non-profit organization Invisible Children. The
organization is dedicated to curbing the problem of children forced
to flee their homes nightly, to find shelter miles away in hospitals
or bus parks, in order to escape being abducted and pressed into
service as child soldiers in the rebel LRA (Lord's Resistance Army).
“I’m Like a Lawyer…(Me & You)” will be the follow-up single to “The
Take Over, The Breaks Over,” the third release from INFINITY ON
HIGH, and the band’s sixth #1 video on MTV’s TRL countdown.
Previously in April and May, “Thnks Fr Th Mmrs” hit #1 on the
countdown several times, and was the #1 Most Added single at radio
in May. “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race,” the new album’s
first single pick, bulleted to #1 last winter on the Pop 100 charts,
and made a #2 debut on the Hot 100 – the highest debut by a rock
band since Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” in 1998.
