The last US tour date of Sounds Of The Underground 2006 was held at the
Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal City Walk. Unfortunately, this
venue was not built for a crowd anticipating large areas in which to mosh.
Terror understood the crowd's frustration and instructed them to leave
their seats and rush to the pit. Being home-town boys, the crowd
happily obliged and created one of the largest pits of the evening.
Unwilling to suffer any more opening bands, GWAR dispatched two of their
slaves to kill members of Terror and clear the stage. GWAR, as always,
delivered a bloody good show, killing off characters such as a pig-like
police officer and George W. Bush. Trivium carried the crowd
momentum built by GWAR that peaked with their cover of Metallica's Master
of Puppets. Cannibal Corpse gave their best to the crowd, but the
confining Amphitheatre layout prevented the crowd from giving back to the
band. If Flames was also a crowd favorite and stood out in the
lineup due to their unique sound. As I Lay Dying also brought their
own brand of metal to the show, sending the crowd into yet another
restrained frenzy. Sounds Of The Underground 2005 had a great vibe
due to it being an outdoor concert, but moving the show inside did nothing
but dampen the energy of the bands.
